A credit union is not-for-profit financial cooperative that is formed by people with a common bond. Credit unions are owned and operated by the members it serves. Members of credit unions pool their assets to provide loans and other financial services to each other.

Banks are for-profit companies that exist to generate high levels of profit for their stockholders. Bank stockholders elect a paid board of directors to run the bank and to financially benefit stockholders, not the bank's depositors. Credit unions are not-for-profit organizations that were founded on the idea of "people helping people". They are member-owned and exist to serve their members, with a volunteer board of directors.

If you are an employee of one of the companies in our Field of Membership or you Live/Work in Grafton, Sullivan or Cheshire County, NH or Caledonia, Essex, Windham, Windsor or Orange County, VT, you are eligible to join NLCU.  Learn more about Membership Eligibility.

If you are an immediate family member or a household family member of an existing NLCU member, you are also eligible for NLCU membership.

Immediate family members: Spouse, children, siblings, parents, grandchildren, grandparents, stepchildren, stepsiblings, stepparents and adoptive children.

Household family members: Persons living in the same residence, maintaining a single economic unit.

Yes, a minimum deposit of $25 to fund your membership is required to open a NLCU Savings Account and establish your membership at NLCU.

Yes. Your deposits are insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government.  Call customer service at 800-856-0026 for a pamphlet for more information.

You can update your address in person at our branch locations or emailing (info@northernlightscu.com) the credit union.

You can make deposits in person or by mail. You can also make deposits conveniently through payroll deduction or Remote Deposit Capture.

A stop payment request may be made either in person, or via telephone request. A stop payment request made by telephone will expire in 14 days unless confirmed in writing within this same time period. A written stop payment request is valid for six months

If you discover your checks have been lost or stolen, please phone us at 800-856-0026.

It usually takes between seven to ten business days to receive personal checks. Rush delivery methods are available for a fee.

Automated Telephone Banking is available 24/7

Yes, by requiring all members to enter an access code (PIN), Automated Telephone Banking provides a safe environment for conducting transactions.

All transactions made during business hours take effect immediately. Transactions made after business hours, on a weekend or on a holiday will be posted on the next business day with an effective date of the actual transaction date

A total of six electronic withdrawals or transfers per month are allowed from all Savings and Money Market Accounts. However, unlimited withdrawals and transfers can be made through an ATM or in person at a NLCU branch.

No, you can apply by phone without being a member, however, you must be eligible for membership. Prior to the loan being funded, you will need to establish a NLCU membership and a Savings Account.
